The Seltos has been the major contributor in the overall sales
Kia India’s sales have recently been soaring. The Korean marque had recorded sales of 15,016 units in July 2021, and over 1 lakh units so far this year. The carmaker has now announced that it has crossed the 3-lakh units sales milestone in India. With just three models in its portfolio and in a span of less than two years, Kia is the fastest carmaker yet to have achieved this milestone in India. The first 1 lakh milestone was achieved in July 2020, the second in January 2021, and the third in August 2021. It is quite shocking a fact that a ‘newbie’ brand sold one lakh units in under 6 months (Jan to Aug 2021)!
A more interesting way of looking at this would be: While Kia India sold 1 lakh units in the first year in business here, the figures doubled in the second year, to a whopping 2 lakh units. Kia had made its India debut with the Seltos, which has been the key contributor to its sales here. The Seltos has a share of 66% in the overall figures, the recently launched Sonet ranks second with 32% and premium MPV Carnival has sold 7,310 units so far, higher than the predictions of many industry experts, including us.
Kia India is overwhelmed by the immense acceptance in the country and is currently working on improving their customer experience, pushing in more exciting products, widening the network, and improving the after-sales. It had recently opened its first PHYGITAL showroom in Mumbai, marking an advancement in the business model.
