A prototype of the new fast charger has already been developed, confirms sources
India’s Heavy Industries Minister Mahendra Nath Pandey has announced the Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), an autonomous automotive R&D organization affiliated with the Ministry of Heavy Industries, is developing a fast charger for Electric Vehicles.
“They have developed a prototype of a fast charger, and the product is expected to be ready by December 2022,” the Minister informed at a Round Table To Promote Electric Mobility conference hosted by the department, reports PTI.
The Minister has also said ARAI was told to develop the fast EV Charger inside October 2022 so that EV users can avail the facility as early as possible. He also hoped the fast chargers would help boost the demand for Electric Vehicles, by curbing the vehicle charging time significantly.

As part of this project, the ministry is also in talks with the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas to install chargers at 22,000 fuel pumps in India. An estimation made by the Minister puts a fast charger unit in every 25 km on National Highways and a radius of 3 km in cities.
The ARAI conference, attended by Transport ministers of eight states, was focused on promoting electric mobility and attracting investments in it.
The Ministry has sanctioned 2,877 electric vehicle charging stations in 68 cities across 25 states and Union territories and 1,576 charging stations across nine expressways and 16 highways under a scheme to promote faster adoption of Electric vehicles, reports PTI.
