The new Bajaj Chetak could even come with a slightly more powerful indigenous motor
Bajaj is apparently working on an update to its Chetak electric scooter. The EV is being reworked with a higher degree of ‘indigenization and localization’, reports Autocar India.
Chetak EV, a spin-off of Bajaja’s iconic petrol scooter from the 1970s, was first launched in India in 2020. In the upcoming upgrade, Bajaj will slightly increase the power of the Motor to 4.2kW from the current 4.08kW, courtesy of a new locally engineered motor. The current model uses a Bosch-sourced Motor churning out a continuous output of 3.8kW, while the new indigenous Motor will have a constant power output of 4.0kW.
With many EV makers increasingly turning local and branding products to 100% Made in India, Bajaj is likely to follow suit, and might even opt for a locally-sourced battery pack. This might even give the Chetak a range upgrade too. The upgraded scooter is type-approved for road use and the final product could hit the market soon.
Offering 90 Kilometers range on a full charge, the current model takes five hours to reach attain a full charge. Currently, Chetak EV costs a whopping ₹ 1,41,440 (ex-showroom) in Pune. With the localization in place, the prices might come down slightly.
