Jeep Meridian will launch in India by mid 2022
Jeep India has teased its new 7 seater SUV for India- the Jeep Meridian, through a few images and a video. Built on the same chassis as the popular Jeep Compass, the Meridian is the Indian counterpart of the Jeep Grand Commander that is already on sale abroad. The market launch is set to happen in July 2022, and would be one of the three highly anticipated product launches from the manufacturer this year.
Jeep Meridian: What’s In The Name?
Fair amounts of work seems to have gone into naming the 7 seater SUV. Owing to possible copyright issues, the ‘Commander’ moniker could not be used. Thus, Jeep hunted for a better, fresh name and finally settled for ‘Meridian’. The SUV is named after the line that passes through the length of India connecting a bunch of exquisite states and cultures. This nomenclature encapsulates the ‘ made-in-india’ character of the SUV.
What’s In The Teaser Video?
The video released on the official YT channel shows a fairly camouflaged Jeep Meridian endeavoring extensive testing in a K2K run. The SUV is being tested on all possible terrains in India, from Kashmir to Kanyakumari. The Meridian is shown with a Black-Yellow camo, that clearly has some India-specific graphics on it.
The camo is fairly good at what it does, and does not give away much design details. However, when looked at in detail, you do get to spot the familiar Jeep grille, sculpted bonnet, squared-off wheel arches, integrated LED DRLs, refreshed fog lamp housing, wider air intakes, and Y-shaped alloy wheels, tall pillars, raked front windshield, new tailgate, refreshed tail lamps, and longer rear overhangs. The car has evidently grown in size. It gets a considerably longer wheelbase, larger overhangs, and a decent spike in the overall length to comfortably house the third row inside.
Though not detailed in the video, the Jeep Meridian is expected to come with a refreshed feature list. Expect things like a new 10.1inch touchscreen infotainment unit with Android Auto and Apple Carplay, 10.25 digital instrument cluster, ventilated front seats, wireless charger, panoramic sunroof, and ADAS features.

Expected Powertrain Details
The Jeep Meridian is expected to share the powertrain with the outgoing Compass. The 2.0L diesel engine will produce 200hp, a decent hike from the Compass’ output. A 9 speed AT and AWS are also expected. We hope the Jeep Meridian launch to happen by mid-2022, mostly in July this year. More details to follow as they surface.
