BMW X1 has hit its third generation and is now larger and better-equipped
BMW has launched the new 2023 X1 SAV in India with prices starting at Rs 45.9 lakh, ex-showroom. The market debut happened at the final BMW Joy Town session in Bengaluru, and the X1 being the final product in the carmaker’s ‘8 weeks, 8 launches’ product offensive. BMW X1 has now hit its third generation and packs a host of changes. 2023 BMW X1 is larger, more comfortable and better kitted than its predecessor and is available in two variants- xLine and MSport. 2023 BMW X1 Dimensions And Size
The X1 has always had the reputation of being the ‘baby BMW SUV’. Even though it retains the title of being the entry point to the X- range, the gen-3 X1 is not the ‘baby’ it once used to be. It has grown fairly in size. It is now 53mm longer, 24mm wider and 44 mm taller than the previous car. The wheelbase has also gone up by 22 mm.

Interestingly, the growth in dimensions has fairly translated into an increase in cabin room, unlike one of its rivals that failed miserably in doing so. The boot offers a very practical capacity of almost 476 liters.

2023 BMW X1: Design
The overall styling of the new BMW X1 is evidently an evolution of its predecessor’s. The vehicle now looks more proportionate and offers better road presence. It borrows key design cues from other modern-day BMW SUV nameplates like the X3, X5, and even XM, even while looking undeniably like an X1! The biggest changes on the exterior include a bigger squared grille design, fresh-looking adaptive LED headlamps, restyled bumpers with fresh garnishes, and a C-shaped tail lamp design that would remind you of many modern BMWs. The vehicle rides on 18-inch wheels. You’d find skid plates at both the front and rear and there is a very careful use of Chrome overall. This could rank among the best-looking renditions of the X1 to date.
2023 BMW X1 Interior Design And Features
Cabin experience and feature list have improved greatly on the new X1. The interior now looks more plush and up-market. The dashboard now gets a large curved display that neatly encompasses the 10.7-inch infotainment touchscreen and 10.25-inch digital cockpit. The ambient light strips are now better integrated into the cabin. The floating armrest hosts a bunch of controls and switches and is very good-looking. The range-topping MSport variant comes with a 12-speaker surround sound system from Harman Kardon. Other important features on the facelifted X1 include massage functions for the front seats, BMW iDrive with OS 8, vertically designed wireless charger, 2-zone air conditioning, adjustable rear seats, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, NFC and smartphone-based key, ADAS functions, park assist, automatic tailgate operation and improved connected car functions.

2023 BMW X1 Engine, Specifications And More
LIke its predecessor, the new X1 is also available with petrol and diesel engines. The X1 sDrive 18i is powered by a 1.5L, three-cylinder petrol engine that produces 136hp and 230 Nm. 0-100 kph sprint is claimed to be done in 9.2 seconds. X1 sDrive 18d features a 2.0L, four cylinder diesel engine that churns out 150 hp and 360 Nm. X1 diesel is a touch quicker and can do 0-100 kph in 8.9 seconds. The petrol engine comes mated to a 7-speed dual clutch automatic gearbox while it is a 7 speed torque converter automatic that’s offered on the diesel. There is, however, no AWD on offer on the Indian spec.
BMW apparently has a high focus on improving the fuel efficiencies of both these engines. The diesel is now claimed to offer 20.37 kpl and upto 16.3 kpl is to be expected from the petrol.
Price, Variants, Booking, Deliveries, And Rivals
The petrol-powered BMW X1 2023 is priced at Rs 45.90 lakh (ex-showroom) and the diesel X1 bears a sticker price of Rs 47.90 lakh. While bookings for these are already open and underway, we also know that these prices introductory and would apply just to a limited number of units. Deliveries of the diesel X1s are expected to start in March, while the petrol-opters will have to wait till June 2023, to take their rides home. In the Indian market, the new BMW X1 will compete against the outgoing Mercedes GLA, new Audi Q3, Mini Countryman, and Volvo V40.
