The all new Mahindra Thar continues to sell huge numbers in December as well
The all new Mahindra Thar had created much commotion in the market at the time of its launch a few months back. The Thar had bagged as much as 20,000 bookings within a month of its launch. However, the SUV has not lost momentum even after months and is still selling hot in the country. In a virtual conference held, the company revealed that the Thar got 6500 bookings in December 2020.
To meet the sky-high demand for the offroader, Mahindr and Mahindra has ramped up the production by a fair bit. Unlike the predecessor, the new Thar comes with diesel and petrol engine options and both can be had with a 6AT automatic transmission along with the 6 speed manual box. The 2.2L diesel mill churns out 132hp and 300Nm of torque while the turbocharged 2.0L petrol puts out a good152hp and 300nm of torque (320Nm with automatic box).
It seems more people are opting for the Automatic Thar, according to Mahindra, the automatic variants contribute to half of the sales. Rajesh Jejurikar, executive director, Auto and Farm Sectors, M&M said,, “About 50 percent of the Thar’s sales are coming from the automatic options, which clearly reflect the acceptance of upmarket mainstream Mahindra products,”
