Rumoured to be ready by 2027, the Creta-based pickup will be positioned below the Hyundai Santa Cruz.
If rumours are to be believed, Hyundai is working on a compact pickup and may be targeting to unveil it sometime in 2027. Markets like Brazil, India, South Africa, and Argentina could benefit from a compact pickup truck bearing the Hyundai badge. This is reason enough for the Korean carmaker to explore that segment with an offering based on a car already familiar to these markets – the Hyundai Creta.
A Brazilian online publication – Mobiauto – reported that the upcoming compact pickup will be positioned below the incredibly stylish Santa Cruz currently in Hyundai’s lineup. The publication claims to have unnamed sources within Hyundai who confirmed that the development work on the project has already begun.

We aren’t going to dismiss this as one of those implausible rumours which often surface in the industry. Hyundai has explored the idea of a Creta-based compact pickup in the past as well, even going to the extent of showcasing the Creta Sport Truck concept back in 2016. With more markets, including the likes of India, gradually warming up to pickup trucks as lifestyle vehicles, it’s only logical for the Korean company to take their big slice of the pie.

The Hyundai Creta range already offers a wide range of engines and transmissions. So finding suitable powertrains won’t be a tough job either for Hyundai once the project proceeds to more advanced stages and hopefully into mass production.
