Jaguar knows exactly what it’s doing. If you want to signal who a car is really for, you don’t say it- you show it. And there are few places that define a target audience better than Monaco during a race week. That’s exactly where Jaguar has parked a tastefully camouflaged Type 01 prototype, just days before the Formula E Monaco E-Prix. This isn’t random. The crowd in Monaco right now is the crowd Jaguar wants buying this car.
A Strategic Appearance, Not A Coincidence

The camouflaged prototype has been spotted in a striking red, white and beige wrap, with “Type 01” branding clearly visible on the roof. It doesn’t reveal anything new in terms of design but keeps things clean. However, that’s not the point.
This is about positioning. Jaguar is placing its most important upcoming electric model in front of one of the most exclusive audiences in the world. People who regularly buy Bentleys and Rolls-Royces are walking past this car. Plus, they are interested in all-electric performance. That’s the segment Jaguar is targeting with the Type 01.
And despite all the criticism around its 2024 rebrand and marketing, the company seems confident enough to let the product do the talking now.
Design That Refuses To Blend In

The Type 01 looks nothing like a traditional Jaguar- and that’s intentional.
Like the earlier Type 00 concept, this car skips the conventional grille. Instead, it gets slim LED daytime running lights and separate headlamps. The proportions are unusual for an EV too. There’s a long bonnet, even though it doesn’t need one in the traditional sense. That could mean a large frunk, but Jaguar hasn’t confirmed that yet.

You also get flush, pop-out door handles, a very tight rear design, and interestingly, no visible rear window. The boot opening appears small as well, suggesting that practicality may not be the top priority here. This is a design built to stand out. And it will divide opinion.
Cabin: Minimal, But Not Basic

Inside, Jaguar is going for a bold, modern layout. The steering wheel features thick horizontal spokes packed with controls. It’s different, and clearly designed to feel futuristic. The dashboard is dominated by a large wraparound infotainment display, paired with a fully digital instrument cluster. It’s minimal in layout, but not in presence.
Big Power, Bigger Expectations
Underneath, the Type 01 is just as serious as it looks. It is expected to use a 120 kWh battery pack, paired with a three-motor setup- one at the front and two at the rear. Combined output is expected to exceed 1,000 hp, with torque figures standing around 1,300 Nm. That puts it firmly into ultra-luxury performance segment.
But numbers alone won’t be enough. Jaguar’s last EV, the I-Pace, proved the brand could build an exciting electric car. But it also faced reliability issues, especially around the battery. With the Type 01, Jaguar has to get everything right- performance, design, and long-term dependability.
Jaguar’s Electric Future Lies In This

The Type 01 is not just another launch. It is a statement. By showcasing it in Monaco, the company is making it clear where this car sits. This is not aimed at traditional luxury sedan buyers. It is going after a smaller, more exclusive group- buyers who want something different, something bold, and something that stands out even in a place like Monaco.
The global reveal is scheduled for September. Until then, Jaguar will keep teasing it.
But one thing is already clear- the Type 01 isn’t trying to please everyone. And that might be its biggest strength, or a weakness that time will expose…
