The new Rimac hypercar will debut later this year
Rimac has confirmed a new single-seat, track-only hypercar to be in the pipeline. CEO Mate Rimac recently revealed the first details of the upcoming car. The Croatian brand is known for building high-performace, road-going, two-seater electric cars. The new hypercar will thus be an absolute departure for Rimac, as it will be a complete track machine, with no ‘road-going’ intentions.
“Now we have decided to not just push the limits in road cars, but also in racing on track,” Mate told Motor1. “So we are building a track car, a single-seater that’s going to be faster than any race car for most tracks. Faster than Formula 1, faster than Le Mans.”
Rimac’s New Track-Only Hypercar: What We Know Of It Yet?
Details are sparse at the moment. It will be a single-seater track machine. Mate has also confirmed that the upcoming hypercar will feature a closed-canopy-style cockpit, with a single, centralised seating for the driver. It will not be based on the Nevera, and be underpinned by a new and improved platform.
Rimac’s new hypercar will not conform to any existing ruleset- as per the manufacturer. It would go beyond Formula 1 or LMP rules while still staying safe. The car will probably make its debut later this year, and Rimac could conduct the first track events next year.
The news of this track car comes soon after Rimac took veils off the Nevera R- the more focussed iteration of the Nevera hypercar that makes 2,107 hp and does 0-60 mph in just 1.74 seconds.
