2024 TVS Jupiter Review: ‘ Good Stuff Made Better!’

Impressions from the first drive of the new Jupiter

The 2024 TVS Jupiter 110 has just been launched in the country and we get our first taste of the scooter at the manufacturer’s test track in Hosur. A lot of things have changed on Jupiter 110 and we’ll explain the most important ones in this review…

TVS has four variants on offer for the new Jupiter, out of which we chose to ride the fully equipped top-spec.

Design

The Jupiter has always been a good-looking scooter. However, most of the previous iterations had a rather minimalistic, simple design approach. The new Jupiter, however, chooses to differ and comes with a striking, contemporary design and a lot of visual appeal. It no longer looks basic or minimal.

The scooter gets full-width LED light bars both at the front and rear. TVS calls the front bar ‘infinity lamps’. It gets integrated LED turn signal lamps. The design makes tasteful use of Piano Black trims and stylish body panels.

The rear has the brake and indicator lamps neatly integrated into a full-width light bar. The front and rear light bars contribute much to giving this scooter a proper road presence. The new Jupiter 110 also comes with the longest (756 mm) seat in the segment.

The Jupiter was the first scooter in its segment to feature 12-inch wheels, and the same continues on its latest iteration as well. Both the front and rear wheels are 12-inch units shod with grippy tyres.

Colours

The new Jupiter is available in a total of 6 colour options: Dawn blue matte, Galactic copper matte, Starlight Blue gloss, Lunar White gloss, Titanium Grey matte, Meteor Red gloss. Dawn Blue and Galactic Copper are fairly new shades and the former looks the best in flesh.

Features

Much like its predecessors, the new Jupiter 110 also comes packed with features. The digital instrument cluster offers a plethora of information including turn-by-turn navigation and telephony alerts. It offers decent display quality even under harsh sunlight. There are TVS SmartX Connect and voice assist offered as well.

You can use the TVS mobile application to perform a series of functions like locating the scooter in a parking lot, gathering vehicle information etc.

The scooter also gets hazard lamps. The controls for these, interestingly are integrated into the indicator lamp switch. You use the same switch gear for both indicators and hazard lights. Long press the indicator control (for approx 5-6 seconds) to turn the hazard lights on. Switching these off, however, takes just a click.

As an additional safety feature, the scooter also gets an ‘Emergency Brake Warning’ function which activates Hazard lamps when you do panic / sudden braking, to warn nearby vehicles of the same.

Convenience and practicality: We have loved TVS Jupiter for how practical and convenient it is. The new scooter chooses to be no different. It offers plenty of underseat storage (33 litres!). You can comfortably store two half-face helmets in there. There is a glove pocket, bag hook, and a USB charging point near the keyhole, for added convenience.

Mechanical Changes

Much has changed on mechanical grounds. The new Jupiter 110 gets an improved version of the Jupiter 125’s chassis. It has been optimised for more rigidity and less weight. The fuel tank sits under the floorboard, making for a forward set and low Centre of Gravity. This further improves the vehicle’s stability and road manners.

The engine here is a new, in-house developed 113.3 cc unit that gets iGO assist- an ISG-based micro-hybrid tech that delivers both efficiency and performance advantages.

What is iGO Assist?

This ISG (Integrated Starter Generator) based tech has 3 main components: The ISG machine, ISG controller and a 5A high-performance battery pack. The ISG and assist motor help in giving an instant power boost. TVS claims the setup to produce 0.6Nm of torque. This could be particularly useful in scenarios like getting off the line at a traffic junction or in overtaking. The boost will make the battery deplete. However, as per manufacturer claims, the regeneration only takes 1-2 minutes.

The new Jupiter 110’s engine is optimized to extract maximum performance without compromising on efficiency. It uses a low inertia crankshaft and low thrust pistons with DLC-coated ring OD for maximising life and efficiency.

Ride Impressions

We rode the new Jupiter on the test track at the TVS plant in Hosur. The track had two big straights and a couple of long corners. The new Jupiter performed very well on the straights. It felt quite quick to get off the line. Pin down the throttle and the scooter sprints off. I could get to indicated speeds of 85 kph on the straights, and the vehicle felt quite stable even at high speeds. The advanced engineering, which the manufacturer calls ‘Body balance 2.0’ seems to be quite good in real. The rider feels quite confident and comfortable at speeds- a comment that we rarely make about a 110cc scooter!

You will appreciate the dynamics and agility around corners too. The improved mass centralisation, low CG, brilliant suspension tuning, and bigger wheels all help improve road manners. The tyres offer good grip as well. Changing direction can be done confidently at most speeds.

2024 Jupiter gets petal disc brakes at the front. Overall braking performance is quite good. The ‘Emergency Brake Warning’ function works flawlessly in most scenarios.

We have limited data on pillion comfort yet, as the first ride was more about experiencing the scooter on the test track. We’ll tell you more about this once we get to have the Jupiter for a detailed road test.

The iGO Assist has a notable impact on performance. You can feel the boost (though not too much) when it is activated. It, however, doesn’t last for long. The good part is that the replenishing time is rather short.

Verdict (Who is this scooter for?)

The new Jupiter caters to people who are on the hunt for a practical, good-looking family scooter that has an aura of ‘being premium’ and delivers high value to their money. We think the product fits the box perfectly, and the only thing left to find out is the real-world mileage, as TVS has been lip-zipped about the same. The manufacturer says it would be roughly 10% more than the segment benchmark, and we can hardly disbelieve considering the micro-hybrid tech offered.
