Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak will be the key rivals of the electric Burgman
Suzuki has been evaluating the Burgman- based electric scooter for quite some time in India. A number of test mules had been spotted earlier on test here. Now the patent details of the vehicle have leaked online, revealing more data about the specifications. Now, it’s quite clear that the Burgman Electric scooter will have its key elements carried over from the petrol-powered peer. It has the same Maxi-scooter body, front-heavy fairing, outsized windscreen and rear tyre hugger from the current model.
External Styling And Features
The all-new Burgman Street Electric will look almost the same as the conventional Burgman. But, the scooter will have a bunch of unique design cues as well. It will likely have a stepped-up seat with a pillion grab rail, a headlamp-mounted front apron, a new rear tire hugger, LED headlamps, alloy wheels, front disc brakes, and a raised windshield.
The scooter is also expected to have a Bluetooth-enabled digital instrument console with smartphone connectivity and support for turn-by-turn navigation.
Key Mechanical Highlights
While the conventional electric scooters have their swingarms and motors either clubbed together or the motor mounted on the hub of the rear wheel, the Burgman Street Electric has its drivetrain placed in the under-seat area, and connected to the motor through a chain drive system. As evident from the picture, this structure eats up all the under-seat storage and could be a concern for many. The battery seems to be mounted on the top of the motor, along with other electronics like the speed controller and transformer. Cooling is done via air ducts, outlets, and fans placed within the body of the vehicle. It is too early to comment on the further details of this setup or its pros and cons. To manage the heavy electronics onboard, the scooter will also have dual shocks at the rear.
While there has been no official word on it yet, we expect the electric Burgman to have its top speed in the 65-70 km/h range and a range of up to 75 km. Going by the current market trends, the price could be around INR 1.2 lakh (ex showroom). The electric Burgman will have the major chunk of its competition from the Ather 450X, TVS iQube and Bajaj Chetak Electric.
