VAAN Mobility enters the electric bicycles space with much enthusiasm
Indian lifestyle e-mobility startup VAAN Electric Moto Pvt Ltd has launched a new electric bicycle in the country, called UrbanSport. The vehicle is available in two distinct variants- Urbansport and Urbansport Pro. Targeted at lifestyle and cycling enthusiasts, the bikes will go on sale in Kochi first, before expanding to other markets like Goa, Hyderabad, Bangalore, Mumbai, and Delhi. Pre-bookings have begun for the Urbansport and Urbansport Pro, with the ex-showroom prices standing at Rs 59,999 and Rs 69,999 respectively. The deliveries will commence soon as well.
VAAN Urbansport And Urbansport Pro: What Are They?
The Urbansport is an electric bicycle and Urbansport Pro a more premium iteration of the same. Both the vehicles have been made with the urban-dwelling crowd in mind, who would want to switch to bicycles for their routine commutes. VAAN had showcased these bikes along with a few other prototypes at EICMA 2021.
VAAN Urbansport was conceived and developed as a product that adheres to global standards. VAAN has worked closely with a few major names on various aspects of these bikes. Benelli Biciclette, the e-bike wing of the Italian motorcycle brand has been actively involved in the design, engineering, and supply chain management of the Urbansport Duo. The 6061 Aluminium alloy unisex frame, saddle, rims, and handlebar have all been designed by Benelli.
Both bikes get Shimano Tourney 7 speed derailleur gear system, front and rear disc brakes, VAAN Smart LCD display, and Spinner USA front shocks. The Urbansport Pro is the more premium, urban-spec of the two and comes with alloy wheels, sportier rear fenders, and an electric motor that is neatly integrated into the rear hub.
The electric powertrain on both the bikes consists of a 48V, 250W, 45 Nm electric motor paired with a 48V, 7.5 Ah removable Lithium-ion battery pack. These offer 5 levels of electric pedal assist and a full-throttle mode. The electric drivetrain offers a top speed of 25 km/h and ranges of up to 50-60 km. The battery pack weighs just 2.5 kilograms and would take 4 hours and half a unit of electricity for a full charge.
The entire branding of VAAN is handled by KTM -owned KISKA Gmbh, Austria. The company has also launched an extensive array of apparel, cycle helmets, cycling jerseys, and smartwatches. VAAN smartwatches can be bought on Amazon and Flipkart.
The Road Ahead
Two more electric products are expected to debut in the next 3-6 months. Besides these, VAAN Electric Moto has plans of launching multiple all-electric products spanning across segments in the years ahead. A number of new electric two-wheelers including B2B vehicles and mopeds are expected. Also, the manufacturer would bring in the production guise of the electric kids’ motorcycle proto that was displayed at EICMA, in the time ahead. VAAN also has plans of developing boats and defense vehicles in the future.
