Ziptron-Powered Tata Tigor EV Launched In India

Tata Tigor EV becomes the second electric vehicle from the homegrown carmaker to get Ziptron

Tata Motors has launched the all-new Tigor EV in the electric passenger vehicle segment. The electric Tigor, which was earlier available in just the fleet segment, is now offered to PV buyers in three different variants- XE, XM, and XZ+, priced from 11.99 lakh onwards (ex-showroom). Tigor EV gets a number of major under-skin reworks upon its re-entry. The sedan has become the second product from Tata Motors to host the Ziptron technology, which also remains its key USP.

2021 Tata Tigor EV: Key Highlights

The updated Tigor EV was officially unveiled later last month. The overall design of this car remains true to the BS6 Tata Tigor, which it is based on. The new car also comes with a new Teal Blue colorway. Plus, it gets all the familiar design details of Tata EV(s) like the stylish EV grille finished in gloss Black and multiple EV Blue accents across the body. The electric Tigor even has them inside its wheels as a matter of muse! The bumpers too have been slightly refreshed and the roof blacked out.

The overall layout and design of the cabin stay identical to the ICE car, though with the never-before touches of EV Blue inside. Owing to its EV persona, the updated Tigor EV has a rotary drive selector placed (bizarrely) in the place of the conventional gear knob. The car gets a large infotainment system, with iRA integration and Harman audio, automatic climate control, and the Tigor’s all-digital instrument cluster.

Ziptron Inside !

The biggest change on the new Tigor EV is the advanced Ziptron technology onboard. This high voltage (300+V) technology if you might remember, had originally premiered on the Tata Nexon EV, which is currently taking the markets by storm. One hardly needs a preface to the Ziptron’s capabilities. The same has now debuted on the Tigor as well. This essentially means that the electric sedan is no longer the sluggish, low voltage EV it once used to be.

The new electric sedan is built on the same platform as the petrol/diesel-powered Tigor. It, however, gets a larger 26 kWh liquid-cooled, high-density battery pack than its predecessor, powering the 55 kW motor, capable of producing 170 Nm of torque. With Ziptron in place, the Tigor EV now supports DC fast charging, and offers ranges of up to 306 kilometers per charge.

4 Star Safety !

Here’s the cherry on the cake, the new Tigor EV has already been crash-tested by Global NCAP. The electric sedan scored 12/17 points in adult safety and 37.24/49 in child safety and has thus been awarded a 4-star rating. This is the first EV crash test from Global NCAP for Tata.
