The Jaguar F Type gets decent cosmetic makeover and a slew of in-cabin changes in the facelift

Jaguar India has given the F Type facelift a silent market entry in India, following the ongoing COVID 19 Coronavirus pandemic and the associated lockdown. The mid-life facelift to Jaguar’s popular sportscar had first been unveiled towards the end of 2019. In India, the prices for the 2020 Jaguar F Type start at INR 95.12 lakh.

The new Jaguar F Type gets a slew of design and other upgrades on the outside and inside the cabin. The front end is absolutely fresh on the new car. One would not find any cue of the previous car anywhere at the front. Though the vehicle now looks longer and wider than its predecessor, nothing really has changed about its dimensions. There is an air of sleekness in the overall design. Upfront are the familiar J shaped LED DRLs of new generation Jaguar cars, beautifully incorporated into the narrow headlamps, which now look longer and sharper than before. There are a well-sculpted bonnet and sporty-looking front bumpers. The grille sits wide and intimidating, finished in black.

However, the designs of the profile and the rear do resemble the previous model to great extents. The tail lamps too seem to have become more slender and have Jaguar I-Pace inspired LED chicane signatures in them.

Huge upgrades have happened on the inside. The cabin design has made generous use of Windsor leather and satin-finished Noble Chrome. The seats and door trims get monogram stitching to add to their detailing.

The key attraction inside the cabin is the large 12.3-inch reconfigurable Interactive Driver Display that occupies the instrumentation space. This screen gives all the essential information to the driver and even gets a ‘Full Map’ mode for added convenience. Besides this, a 10-inch unit does job as the infotainment display as well. The system, like in other modern-day Jaguars has Apple Carplay and Android Auto connectivities among other interesting features.

Talking about the mechanicals, the V6 petrol engine of the F Type is no more! The new F-Type comes with just two engines on offer- the familiar 2.0L, 4 cylinder turbo petrol engine letting out 300hp and a massive 5.0L V8. The latter comes in two different states of tune. The calmer P450 has on offer 450hp and the mighty P575 tops the range with around 575hp on tap. The engines come mated to an 8-speed automatic transmission and AWD is being offered only on the P575.

Like its predecessor, the new Jaguar F-Type also comes in both the coupe and convertible guises. All combined, the 2020 F Type is being offered in 9 different variants to choose from. The prices can go up to as much as INR 2.42 crores for the top-of-the-line Jaguar F Type R convertible. The magnificent ‘First Edition’ version that hosts a bunch attractive bits, is also on sale in the country. Deliveries are expected to commence as and when the market regains normalcy. The Porsche 911 would be the key rival to the F type in our market.
