2020 Kia Optima Unveiled, One EPIC Fastback To Wait For ! [Explained!]

The South Korean Marque’s designers seem to have put in a lotta effort sketching the 2020 Kia Optima down, Phew!

South Korea’s most loved entry-level premium sedan Kia K5 has been finally unveiled after teasing us for a couple of weeks with images. The new Kia Optima(K5) takes on the path of Kia’s bold new design philosophy and looks more urban and fresh in the sedan market.

The 2020 Kia Optima gets a complete makeover and is more sporty, bold and dynamic than ever. The front end is taken up by the Kia’s imposing ‘tiger-nose evolution’ which integrates the grille and headlamps better than the predecessors. The new headlamps feature a heartbeat DRL, which looks out of this world (sorry Audi).

Blame the imposing road presence of the K5 on the well-sculpted hood and the characteristic lower front end, emphasising the smooth yet bold lines on the front of the car.

The new K5 is bigger than ever. It is 50mm longer, 25mm wider and 20 mm shorter than the predecessor at 4905mm, 1860mm and 1445mm respectively. (Heck yeah! The favourite recipe for a low slung sportier stance) and the wheelbase has grown to 2850mm for a more stable driving experience.

The rear end of the K5 has a rear combination lamp design which runs through the breadth of the car.  The rear light cluster reflects the slender heartbeat motto found at the front. The rear wing, perfectly sculptured onto the lid looks great and useful. A chrome strip running along the roofline through the rear base imparts integrity to the rear end.

The interior images haven’t been released, though the teaser sketch points at a fully digital Meter console along with the touchscreen infotainment system. A rotary gear selector replaces the good old gear lever. (Careful while reducing the volume in your K5, might end up in the reverse gear! Joking btw…)

The outgoing model is offered with 3 different gasoline engines, a 1.6L turbocharged petrol churning out 178hp of power and 264Nm torque, a 2.0L turbocharged sending out 245Hp and 353Nm and a 2.4L petrol good for 185Hp and 241Nm. The powertrains and underpinnings come from Hyundai Sonata, the elder cousin!

The K5 competes against the likes of Honda Accord, Nissan Altima, Ford Fusion, Toyota Camry and Hyundai Sonata in the international market. So, are you waiting for the Kia Optima? Feel free to comment your thoughts below…
