The Mercedes Benz GLS SUV enters its third generation in India.
Mercedes Benz India brings the third generation of the GLS, their most luxurious SUV offering, to our shores. The all-new GLS gets petrol and diesel variants in India, both of which are priced at INR 99.90 lakh ( Ex.showroom India, except Kerala)
The GLS was originally introduced as a replacement for the popular Mercedes Benz GL SUV in India, which had started its journey here in 2010, as CBU units, and had later switched to local assembly. The manufacturer has managed to sell over 6700 units of the GLS here in India so far.
The Mercedes Benz GLS Class, popularly known as the S class of SUVs, due to the huge amounts of luxury onboard, now gets revamped looks and a refreshed equipment array. But that is not all. The GLS has grown in wheelbase by over 60mm, compared to its predecessor. The overall length and width have had leaps of 77mm and 22mm respectively. Thus the second row of seats can now be had with greater room and even more adjustments. The new SUV is also more aerodynamic than its predecessor.
The third-gen SUV comes packed with everything for the tech-savvy. The 5-zone THERMOTRONIC AC, tablet for rear MBUX operations, Active seat kinetics, 13 speaker Burmester Surround Sound system etc are just parts of what’s actually on offer. The MBUX on the GLS gets the addition of a touchscreen and various other updates. It even lists the COVID 19 testing centers in the navigation. Mercedes Benz has also given its Mercedes Me Connect app some major makeover. Mercedes Me Connected cars now get ‘Over The Air’ updates to stay strong among the competitors.
Talking about the mechanicals, the new GLS comes in as the GLS 400d 4MATIC featuring an inline-six diesel engine and the GLS 450 4MATIC with a powerful inline-six petrol engine mated to the 48V EQ Boost technology. The petrol-powered GLS can do the 0-100 sprint in 6.2 seconds while the diesel does it in 6.3 seconds.
The 2020 Mercedes Benz GLS was launched digitally keeping the ongoing pandemic concerns in mind. This is not the first time that Mercedes Benz India is launching their products digitally. They had recently launched the C63 AMG, AMG GTR, and the new top-end variants of the popular Mercedes Benz GLE here in the same fashion as well.
