MG India has launched its all-new electric vehicle- the MG Comet, in the domestic market. The fairly anticipated micro EV is priced from Rs 7.98 lakh (introductory price for the first 5000 units), becoming India’s most affordable EV. Previously, Tiago EV had worn this title.

MG Comet EV is targeted specifically at the young urban crowd who’s on the hunt for a sustainable, budget-friendly means of work commute. The EV is available in 3 different variants at launch- Lv0, Lv1, and Lv2. The exact prices of these are yet to surface. Bookings will begin on May 15, 2023, and deliveries soon after.

MG Comet EV: Quick Look At It

MG Comet is essentially a rebadged Wuling Air, built on the global GSEV platform. Being a dedicated EV architecture, GSEV allows for maximizing of cabin room and occupant comfort despite the car’s minuscule proportions. The two-door, four-seater car offers an array of occupant comfort features, like a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system, rear split seats, connected car features, digital instrumentation, and steering-mounted audio controls. MG Comet rides on 12-inch wheels and 145/70-section tyres.

MG offers 5 colourways including 2 dual tones for the base car, and has a lot of additional customisation options: 7 sticker styles, graphics in 4 colours and 4 MG LIT packs.

MG Comet EV comes with a Tata-sourced 17.3 kWh battery pack with prismatic cells, that is claimed to deliver ARAI range figures of 230 km per charge. This translates to energy costs of around Rs 519 per 1000 kilometres. The vehicle gets an electric motor that delivers 42 hp and 110 Nm. Comet comes with a standard 3.3 kW charger that gets it juiced from 0-80% in 5 hours and to a full in 7 hours. There is no support for DC fast charging though. The Comet EV gets disc-drum brakes. It has Mcpherson strut at the front and a rear multi-link, in suspensions.
