2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado: Quick Highlights
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado gets a new design and is based on the Lexus GX SUV. The new SUV will battle the likes of Ford Bronco, Land Rover Defender, and Jeep Wrangler. It has a retro, capable and good-looking design, inspired by past Land Cruiser models and is built to be practical, durable, and dependable. On very personal grounds, we’d call this the first good-looking Prado in a decade!
2024 Land Cruiser 250 also brings the nameplate back into the North American market. This is also the first time in 14 years that the SUV is getting an update here.
The new Land Cruiser Prado (called J250 internally) is good for driving on roads and off-roads alike. The car is ‘stronger’ than the previous one, with a more rigid chassis and stiffer assembly. It is longer and taller, and has more room on the inside.

The vehicle now gets better wheel articulation, an upgraded Multi-Terrain Monitor interface, and improved off-road driving modes, among other notable upgrades. Additionally, the Prado now features a disconnecting front anti-roll bar that can be disengaged via a switch on the dashboard, enabling maximum wheel articulation on particularly demanding off-road courses.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado Specifications
The new Land Cruiser Prado for the European, Japanese, Middle Eastern, and Australian markets, features the same 2.8-litre diesel engine that currently powers the Fortuner in India. This engine produces 201 hp. By 2025, it could also be equipped with a 48V MHEV mild-hybrid powertrain and paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission. Toyota had recently confirmed itself to be testing an MHEV powertrain with the 2.8L engine, on the Hilux.
Land Cruiser 250, on another variant, is equipped with a 2.4-litre hybrid petrol engine, which is the same engine that powers the GX 470 and a wide range of Toyota and Lexus models worldwide. This i-Force Max hybrid powertrain produces 326 HP and 630 Nm, drawing juice from the 1.87 kWh battery pack.
2024 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado India Launch?
It is highly likely that the new Land Cruiser Prado will soon be launched in India, sitting above the Fortuner and below the full-sized Land Cruiser 300. Additionally, Toyota is preparing to introduce the new Vellfire, along with two other models, to the domestic market soon.
