Hunting for a budget SUV? Hold on, you could find your answers here…
The compact-SUV segment in India has much buzz going on right now. To escalate this further, Maruti Suzuki, Toyota and Hyundai are readying to bring their new compact and micro SUV models into the Indian market. Let’s a quick look into these models, scheduled to launch sometime in 2023.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross (YTB)
Maruti Suzuki will launch a crossover based on their hot-selling premium hatchback, Baleno. It has been spied testing with heavy camo multiple times and is expected to debut at Auto Expo 2023. The Nexa-bound car will be powered by a 1.0L,three-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine that produces around 100 PS. Reports suggest that it will share the same platform as the new Baleno. The premium crossover will come with features such as a floating 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system, heads-up display, automatic climate control, 360-degree camera etc. Other safety updates which had debuted on the new hatchback will be carried over to the crossover as well.
Toyota Taiser
The badge-engineered version of Maruti Suzuki’s Baleno- Toyota Glanza, has been a good volume seller of Toyota in 2022. The trend would continue, with Toyota Taiser, the badge-engineered version of Maruti Suzuki’s upcoming Baleno Crossover. It is likely to carry the same engine, platform and almost similar feature lists as the YTB. But the design could get major upgrades and/or deviations over the Suzuki base car.

Hyundai Micro SUV
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) will launch a micro SUV (Hyundai Casper) next year, as a direct rival to the Tata punch, whose sales figures have been on the rise in H2, 2022. Hyundai is eyeing to take its share of these with the upcoming micro SUV. It would be underpinned by the same platform as the outgoing Grand i10 Nios, and hopefully, be powered by the familiar 1.2L petrol engine. Further details are yet to surface.
