Second generation Maruti Suzuki Celerio will have a lot of upgrades/changes on offer
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch the second-generation Celerio in India. Here is a new set of spy shots of the Celerio Gen 2, captured by us. We got to see the mule up close, amidst the traffic. Having had a quick glance at the exterior and a considerably limited one at the interior, here’s what we feel.
The next-gen Celerio will be underpinned by the Heartect platform, making it look quite bigger than the previous car. It looks and feels almost as large as a WagonR now. Plus, the overall design would see a major overhaul. The overall design seems quite squarish and almost as upright as an SUV! (This could even be the Celerio X prototype! Not sure …)
The headlamps, overall front fascia, and the rear would deviate considerably in terms of design, from the outgoing model. Though it was hard to get a clear idea of it, the taillamps on the mule seemed to resemble the ones on the new Swift in design. The bumpers would also see major design changes.

One major change we could spot though was the new set of door handles. The mule had the old-school lift-type units instead of the outgoing model’s pull-type handles. It is unclear if these are unique to the prototypes or would make their way to the production-spec as well. The mule had steel rims, whereas a set of 13-inch alloys are expected on the production car.
The upcoming Celerio will have major changes on the inside as well and will come with competitive equipment levels. We could spot a large touchscreen infotainment system (which could even be a freestanding unit). There would be added room on the inside, compared to the outgoing car. Key equipment on offer would include a refreshed instrument cluster, new upholstery, climate control, etc.
The new Celerio will have the same 1.0L petrol engine from the outgoing car, which would produce 67hp and 90 Nm. However, Maruti Suzuki could also add the WagonR’s 83hp, 1.2L petrol unit as well. Expect a 5-speed manual and 5 AMT as transmissions.
At present, the Celerio is priced in Rs 4.41-5.68 lakh range. However, with the second generation, these prices are expected to witness a hike. Upon launch, the Celerio will face competition from Tata Tiago and Hyundai Santro.
