Skoda Slavia Sedan Breaks Cover In India, Essentially The Best Looking C Sedan!

Skoda Slavia will launch in the Indian market next year

Skoda India has revealed the newest sedan offering for India, the Slavia. Based on the MQB A0 IN platform, Slavia is the second Skoda that VW’s India 2.0 project spawns. It will be a C-segment sedan, intended to compete with big names like Honda City and Hyundai Verna. Skoda is envisioning a decent hike in its market share with this sedan, and has plans to grow it to 15% by 2025. Slavia would be manufactured at VW Group’s facility in Pune. After multiple camouflaged sightings and previews in the past, Skoda has now revealed the design details of the Slavia.

Skoda Slavia Dimensions

Skoda is betting big on the Slavia in terms of dimensions. The car is significantly larger than the Skoda Rapid, which would eventually be replaced. At 1,752mm, the Slavia’s width is the highest in its segment. It is in fact, 128 mm longer, 53 mm wider and 21 mm taller than the Rapid. The wheelbase is also up by 99 mm, over that of the previous car. These hikes translate to more cabin room and an impressive boot space of 521 liters. Pitting against its rivals, the Slavia has more wheelbase than Hyundai Verna and Honda City and on par with that of Maruti Ciaz.

It Looks Magnificent!

Skoda Slavia is an extremely good-looking car. The production car has minimal deviations from the design sketches that had surfaced earlier. The overall design remains equally exciting and eye-capturing as had been detailed in the sketches. The only areas where you would notice differences would be the wheels, which have now been replaced with more practical ones.

The Slavia being a sedan intended primarily at the Indian market has an exciting crystalline design language. Skoda claims that this has had its inspiration from India and its rich heritage. The car has multiple signature design cues of the Czech manufacturer in its overall shape.

The front view is neat and dynamic. Top-spec Slavia will have LED lighting. Other major exterior design details include signature butterfly grille, sporty-looking bumpers, a clean profile that has a highly curated set of body lines and contours that impart a sense of dynamism, handsome 16-inch two-tone alloy wheels, and an extremely beautiful tail design. The Slavia essentially has the best-looking rear in the segment. The design here would instantly make you draw connections with familiar Skoda nameplates like the Octavia and Superb. The tail lamps have great designs and detailing. Long story short, the Slavia has a butt with no ‘buts’!

The car will be available in three different trims – Active, Ambition, and Style, and with a super-interesting color palette of 5 different shades (Tornado Red, Crystal Blue, Candy White, Reflex Silver, and Carbon Steel). From what we have seen, we can tell you it is the Crystal Blue and the Tornado Red (both exclusive for the Indian market) that you should be putting your money on!

Interior And Features

Slavia’s cabin will have a catchy design and feature the use of high-quality materials, trims, and finishes. Major design details on the inside include the likes of circular air vents, catchy horizontal accents, etc. You would get the familiar air of European-spec Skodas inside this car. There will be no compromise on the features and equipment on offer. The Slavia will have a large 10-inch touchscreen infotainment system with VW group’s modern infotainment software and multiple connectivity functions. The range-topping variant will also have MySkoda Connect features as well. Other features include a large 8-inch digital instrumentation, auto-dimming interior rearview mirror, keyless entry, ventilated seats, two-spoke steering, and wireless charger.

Engine, Platform And Transmissions

Skoda Slavia is the second Skoda model to be made under Volkswagen Group’s billion Euro India 2.0 project. It will thus be underpinned by the same India-spec MQB A0 IN platform, as the Kushaq. Skoda claims its chassis to offer impressive dynamics to the car. It will have up to 95% of localization gone into it.

Much like the Kushaq, the Slavia too will be powered by the same set of turbocharged petrol engines- 1.0L TSI and 1.5 TSI. The 1.0 TSI is expected to produce 115hp and will be mated to manual and automatic transmissions, while the larger engine will have 150hp on offer and a proper 6 speed manual alongside the automatic gearbox. However, the fact that there will be no diesel engine on offer can be disappointing for at least some. The car will also come with a host of safety features and technologies like ESC, ABS, airbags, and more.

Launch Date And Other Details

Skoda India will launch the Slavia here in Q1, 2022. The deliveries are expected to start right after launch. However, we hope to have a detailed drive of this car prior to it. Key rivals would be the City, Verna, and Ciaz. The Slavia is hoped to bring traction back into the C-sedan space, and will soon be joined by its VW cousin- Virtus.
