The new Alto would be built on the Heartect platform
Maruti Suzuki is preparing to launch the next generation Maruti Alto in India, and there is a lot to wait for. The newest iteration of the popular hatchback is expected to reach the dealerships later in August. It will have key mechanical changes gone into it, including a bigger 1.0L engine, alongside extensive revisions in styling and cabin experience.
Next-Generation Maruti Alto: Expected Mechanicals
2022 Maruti Suzuki Alto would be underpinned by the manufacturer’s modular platform- Heartect. This, if you might remember, also underpins other Maruti cars like the Celerio, SPresso, Wagon R, Swift, and more. Courtesy of its platform, the upcoming Alto could be notably larger than its predecessor.

The new Alto would come with two different engine options- a smaller 800cc petrol and an improved version of the larger 1.0 L engine with Dualjet. The smaller unit with its 796cc capacity would produce 48 hp and 69 Nm, while the 1.0L K10C engine would produce 67 hp and 89 Nm. The larger engine would offer the choice of two transmissions- a 5-speed manual and a 5-speed AMT.
With the Dualjet in place, the fuel efficiency is hoped to improve significantly on the new car. Also, Maruti Suzuki could introduce a CNG version of the 2022 Alto sometime soon. This could further improve fuel efficiency and lower the costs. Reports also suggest that Maruti Suzuki could bring in Auto Start/Stop on the new car.
2022 Maruti Alto: Other Changes To Expect
The new Alto would have an extensively revised exterior design. It will be larger and more stylish than the previous car. The cabin will also be fresh and more up-market. A number of new features are expected, like a new touchscreen infotainment system, electric ORVMs, power windows etc.
