–UPDATED with Scorpio Classic Prices-
With the Scorpio-N having lost no momentum in its race towards success, Mahindra has revealed the ‘Scorpio Classic’. The Classic is but the previous (say OG!) Scorpio with some key improvements gone into it. It keeps the legacy of the Indian SUV safe, even while featuring modern tech. The prices would be out on August 20, 2022. Here are the top things to know about the SUV.
Design And Dimensions
The overall stance and dimensions of Scorpio Classic remain almost unchanged from its predecessor. It now looks big, butch and all the more updated.
Length | 4456 mm |
Width | 1820 mm |
Height | 1995 mm |
Wheelbase | 2680 mm |
Fuel Tank capacity | 60 liters |
The design now gets a bunch of tweaks that makes it look fresh and more appealing than before. The front fascia now has a new, bolder grille with Mahindra’s new Twin Peaks logo at its centre, slightly refreshed projector headlamps, new sets of fog lamps and DRLs, and new bumpers with reworked skid plates. A major catch at the front is the bonnet-mounted air intake- an absolute ‘Scorpio thing’ indeed.
While most things on the sides remain familiar, the 17-inch diamond cut alloy wheels are new. The tailgate continues to be side-hinged, but with key styling changes. There is a new Piano Black strip adorning it, on which sits the new Mahindra logo. Slight changes can also be found on the rear bumper. The tower-type tail lamps of the OG have been retained but with more up-market LED elements inside.
Owing to its design, the Scorpio Classic sees no notable capability compromises.
Approach Angle | 27 Degrees |
Departure Angle | 25.4 Degrees |
Ramp Over Angle | 23.9 Degrees |
Ground Clearance | 180 mm |
Water Fording | 500 mm |
Mahindra has given the Scorpio Classic an extremely attractive colour palette. The SUV is available in 5 different colours- Red Rage, Napoli Back, Dsat Silver, Pearl White and a new Galaxy Grey. The Grey, in our opinion, looks extremely appealing on it.

Variants
The new Scorpio Classic is available in two different variants- Classic S and Classic S11. The S is the lower-spec, packing base equipment levels. The S11, however, gets good kit levels, intended to make the cabin more liveable. The S can be had as a 7 seater and 9 seater, while the S11 is a strict 7 seater.
Cabin And Features
Extensive efforts have been put in to improve the overall cabin liveability. A few key areas have been reworked to bring about better occupant comfort. The seat upholsteries are new, steering is leatherette wrapped, there are a number of additional storage spaces and the touchscreen is now a bigger 9-inch unit. The new SUV gets a catchier Black-Beige interior colourway, and generous use of premium wood trims.
The infotainment unit gets 16 GB internal storage and supports for audio/video playback, Bluetooth, USB, AUX, hands-free calling, and phone mirroring. The interface, however, could have been slightly more responsive. Other key features on offer include automatic climate control, digital-analogue instrument cluster, rear AC vents, cruise control, etc.
The Scorpio Classic offers three different seating configurations. It can be had as a 9 seater, a 7 seater (2+2+3) or a 7 seater (2+3+2). This means that the 7 seater can be had with captain chairs on the second row, and side-facing jump seats would come on the 9 seater. The second row gets a convenient tumble function, which feels quite decent to operate.
Quirky Things Inside The Classic
Mahindra Scorpio Classic packs a few heartwarmingly quirky bits inside. The vehicle has separate access doors for its fuel and AdBlue tanks. The diesel filler sits on the left while the DEF filler is on the right. Another neat touch is that both these access doors can be opened by pulling two separate handles inside the boot. The fuel tank can also be accessed via buttons on the dashboard.
Another neat touch would be the bonnet operation. The Scorpio Classic’s hood features hydraulic struts providing for hassle-free operations.
Mechanical Changes
2022 Scorpio Classic is available with a diesel engine alone- the 2.2L mHawk generation 2 found in modern Mahindras like XUV700 and the new Thar. On the Classic, however, this engine produces 130hp and 300 Nm. Courtesy of the improvements made to it, the mHawk Gen 2 is now lighter by 55 odd kilos, more capable and more fuel efficient than before. The SUV comes just with a manual transmission- a 6-speed manual with cable shifting tech.

The Scorpio Classic continues to be a sturdy ladder-frame SUV, with RWD (No 4WD for now!). The suspension (double wishbone with coil spring at front and multi-link at rear) now uses MTV-CL dampers for a better balance between ride and handling and better NVH. Brakes include front discs and rear drums.
UPDATE: Mahindra has revealed the prices of the Scorpio Classic. 2022 Scorpio Classic S is priced at Rs 11.99 lakh ex-showroom, and the S11 gets an ex-showroom tag of Rs 15.49 lakh. Read this story for more info.
