The Renault Kiger will be built on the same platform as the Triber MPV
It’s been months since Renault showcased a B SUV concept, targetted at markets like India, dubbed the Kiger. The global revealing of the production-spec Renault Kiger will take place on 28 January 2021, in India. The compact SUV is likely to carry forward most of the concept model’s design cues ( upto 80% of them, as per trustable sources).
The Kiger is built on Renault-Nissan’s CMFA+ Platform which underpins the Renault Triber and the newly launched Nissan Magnite. The SUV is essentially the Renault version of Magnite and will have similar dimensions and features.
Kiger will retain the Renault fashioned split headlamp design along with a winged front grille with double horizontal slats and the C-shaped tail lamps at the rear, just like the concept. However, the 19-inch wheels of the show car will make way for lower diameter steel rims and alloy wheels for the base variants and top-spec variants respectively. The dual shade paint scheme called either “California Dream” or “Aurora Borealis” and the extensively worked out front and rear bumpers are unlikely to be carried forward as well.
There are no words on the interior as of now but the spy shots which had surfaced on the internet earlier suggest that it would shares some equipment with the 7 seater Triber. These include the dual glove box, steering wheel and digital instrumentation. The features like automatic climate control, keyless entry and go, a floating touchscreen infotainment screen, etc will make their way to the top-spec variants, just like the Nissan Magnite.
The base variants of the Kiger will be powered by a 1.0L 3 cylinder petrol unit producing 72hp while the top-spec variants will be equipped with a turbocharged 1.0L petrol mill with 100hp on tap. transmission options include either a 5-speed manual or a CVT automatic.
Once launched, the Kiger will heat up the competition in sub-compact SUV segment further, and will battle the likes of Maruti Suzuki Brezza, Toyota Urban Cruiser, Nissan Magnite, Mahindra XUV 3OO, Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue and Kia Sonet. Renault is likely to follow the Nissan strategy in pricing and the Kiger is hoped to undercut its rivals by a fair margin in pricing.
