2021 growth has been the highest in a decade for BMW India.
BMW Group India registered the highest growth in sales in a decade, in 2021. BMW and MINI combined, delivered 8,876 cars last year, translating to a combined growth of 34.4%. Individually, BMW cars recorded a 35.19% growth, with 8,236 deliveries while MINI sold 640 units against 512 in the previous period (25%+). BMW Motorrad sold an impressive 5,191 units against the 2,563 units marks of 2020, marking an impressive 102.5% growth.
BMW braved the pandemic to sell 8,236 units of various BMW cars and SUVs last year, against the 6,092 units of 2020. BMW had previously sold 9,000 and 10,405 units in 2019 and 2018, respectively. This essentially means that despite the growth rate being the highest in a decade, the numbers as such were not extraordinary.

BMW India’s sales were dominated by the range of Sports Activity Vehicles (SAV), with the X1, X3, and X5 contributing the most. BMW 340i xDrive and 3 Series Gran Limousine were among the highly sought-after models of the year, and were both completely sold out in no time! The regular 3 series and 5 series also exhibited strong market performance.
As far as the sales of MINI are concerned, nearly half of it was from MINI’s India-made Countryman. The all-new MINI Hatch and MINI Convertible contributed 18% each to the overall sales.
BMW Motorrad had a wonderful year in 2021, with sales reaching 5,191 from 2,563. The major chunk of this was brought in by the company’s entry-level motorcycles- G310 GS and G310 R; BMW says as much as 90% of the total motorcycles sold were these two monikers. Models like S1000 RR, R 1250 GS/GSA, F900 R/XR, and R18 also found buyers in 2021. BMW C400 GT scooter that was launched recently, is also in good demand here.
