Lamborghini Urus was first launched in the country in September 2018
Lamborghini Urus is the supercar maker’s first SUV offering in modern times. It has been amassing huge sales figures across the globe since its global premiere. The Urus was launched in India in September 2018 and the story has been no different here either. India gave the Urus a warm welcome, and Lamborghini India soon got busy with the deliveries. The carmaker now confirms that they have delivered 100 units of the SUV in India so far!
The milestone comes in less than three years of launch. The first unit was delivered to a customer in Mumbai in September 2018. Further, the sales figures had hit the 50 units mark in September 2019. Even with the pandemic in play for the entire 2020, Lamborghini India has managed to sell another 50 units of the 650hp SUV, taking the net count to 100 in March 2021.
Lamborghini India boss, Sharad Agarwal confirms that the manufacturer would soon get itself back to the pre-COVID routine of delivering one Urus a week. The rising demand for the SUV could be a threat to exclusivity-conscious brands like Lamborghini. However, the manufacturer seems to be aware of this as well as we are, and is striking a fine balance between brand exclusivity and sales growth.

Talking of the Urus, the SUV comes built on the MLB Evo platform from Volkswagen Group, which underpins other popular models like the Bentley Bentayga and Porsche Cayenne as well. Power comes from a 4.0L twin-turbo V8 churning out 650hp and 850 Nm. Transmission duties are carried out by an 8-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox. The Urus does the 0-100 run in just 3.6 seconds, thanks be to the impressive output figures and the AWD system on offer. Urus has a top speed of 305 kmph and gets 440mm carbon-ceramic brakes which are, by the way, the largest in class.
Currently, the Urus retails at an ex-showroom price of INR 3.15 crore in India. However, the SUV is known to get a mid-cycle update soon in the form of a pumped-up ‘EVO’ guise. The Urus Evo would have significant styling tweaks and powertrain upgrades, and would mostly make its global premiere sometime this year.
