The mules spied testing near MG plant in Gujarat could be variant upgrades of the Hector Plus and Gloster.
Morris Garages, the subsidiary of Chinese SAIC Motor had debuted in India with the launch of MG Hector in 2019. Since then the manufacturer has been enjoying a position among the top selling brands in India with its premium offerings. Currently, MG Motor India has four models on sale here- Hector, Hector Plus, ZS EV, and the flagship Gloster
MG has always made it a point to keep pace with the competition by giving timely updates and upgrades to its products. The manufacturer seems to be working on similar updates for the Hector Plus and Gloster as well. Recently, the mules of updated flagship Gloster and mid-sized SUV Hector Plus were spotted near the company plant in Halol, Gujarat. While it is too early for either of these to get model updates, we assume these mules to be two new variants on test.
The Hector Plus mule could be a new top-of-the-line Savvy variant, which could be launched sometime soon. The hector Plus Savvy could get AWD and ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System) as was revealed in the recent spy shots of Hector-based Wuling Almaz from Indonesia. There would, however, be no big change in the overall design or other equipment on offer. Since both MG Hector Plus and Mahindra XUV500 are planning to launch ADAS, there would be healthy competition for owning ‘the first in segment’ title.
Going by the spy shots, it is unclear as to what changes would befall the Gloster. As there are no visual differences as such, we expect the mule to be a lower-spec trim with a 6 seater layout. The Gloster already comes equipped with ADAS and is powered by a 2.0L diesel engine with/without a twin-turbo setup, delivering 215hp and 161hp respectively. The transmission on offer is an 8-speed torque converter unit and there is AWD as well.
