From Marutis to Hyundais and Kias, here are a bunch of them…
The India Expo Mart in Greater Noida will host India’s most anticipated automotive event of 2023- the Auto Expo- in the 2nd week of January. A number of exciting automotive launches and tech debuts are expected this time. We have here, listed down 11 upcoming car launches in India, that could either happen at the expo or could give you in-depth drool times there.
Maruti Suzuki Baleno Cross (YTB)
India’s largest auto manufacturer is readying to step up their game by introducing a crossover based on the popular hatchback- Baleno. For the time being the model is codenamed YTB, and could be called Baleno Cross upon launch, if not something else! Going by the spy shots, the crossover could have some of its panels distantly resemble the all-new Grand Vitara, even while keeping the Baleno design genes (and powertrain) safe. Upon launch, the YTB would be placed in between the Brezza and Baleno.
Maruti Suzuki Jimny
Another exciting entry from Maruti Suzuki is the 5-door Jimny. The global SWB version has undergone serious remoulding to meet the requirements of the Indian auto market. Changes in dimension, wheelbase, features, etc are to be expected on the five-door guise. It will share the exterior looks, neo-retro interior and hopefully even powertrains with its 3-door sibling. The new Jimny could be powered by a 1.5-litre four-cylinder (K15B) mild-hybrid engine, producing 103 PS power and 138Nm of torque. Jimny’s main rivals will be the upcoming 5-door force Gurkha and 5-door Mahindra Thar. Reports also suggest that Maruti Suzuki could also launch the 3-door Jimny- almost true to the global spec- alongside the LWB model, at the expo.

Tata Punch EV
Tata Motors is expanding its EV portfolio and is now aiming to introduce the EV version of its micro SUV- the Punch. The all-electric version of the punch will share most of its design with the ICE Punch and will be the first model to be built on the Sigma platform. It will also carry the signature blue highlights of other Tata EVs. Electric Punch could borrow its powertrain-both the battery and the motor- from Tata Nexon EV Prime. Reports speculate that the Punch EV could launch in the 2nd half of next year and could probably be priced from Rs. 12 Lakh.

Hyundai Verna
The much-awaited next-gen Hyundai Verna is almost here. The bigger, flashier, feature-packed new gen will be unveiled at the Auto Expo in January. Updated Verna was recently spied multiple times in public, but with heavy camouflage. The car will be sportier than its predecessor and will have a much more modern/comfortable cabin. However, Hyundai is likely to tweak the powertrain choices on the new car. Reports suggest that the carmaker could axe the diesel engine owing to the upcoming RDE (Real Driving Emissions) norms, and further that the current 1.0L turbo petrol could be replaced with an improved version of the 1.4 turbo petrol from the Creta (and Seltos).

Hyundai Creta facelift
Hyundai will also showcase the facelifted Creta at Auto Expo. The exterior of the car, that’s already available in the international market, has gone through some heavy revision, when compared to the one it replaces. The front fascia is now inspired by the new Tucson. A new parametric grille gives the Creta a more premium look. Rectangular headlamps, sharper tail lamps, new boot lid and rear bumper, etc are also to be spotted. The facelift could continue to host the same petrol and diesel engines as the current SUV. It is expected to be launched in late 2023 and might be priced from Rs. 11 lakhs onwards.
Kia Sorento
Kia will showcase the three-row monocoque SUV, Sorento at the Expo. They have already brought a display unit of the global Sorento to India, just for the Expo. The company is planning to gauge the public response to this, before finalising the launch plans. Skoda Kodiaq and Jeep Meridian will face decent competition if Sorento launches in India.
MG Air EV
MG will show its presence at 2023 Auto Expo by launching its all-electric micro SUV- Air. The three-door mini car is supposed to be MG’s contribution to urban electric mobility space. It will be the most affordable electric car from MG India. The feature-loaded car will have an approximate range of around 200-300 kms. The “smallest production electric car in the country” could be priced at around Rs .10 lakh (ex-showroom). Read this article to know more about the MG Air EV.
Kia Carnival
The all-new fourth-gen, the Carnival will also make an appearance at the Auto Expo. The Carnival gets fresh and better SUV-inspired styling for 2023. it is expected to come with the familiar 2.2-litre diesel engine. It would be significantly larger than the previous car and the recently debuted Innova Hycross- which could turn out to be the closest competition in case of a market launch. The expected price is around Rs. 30- 40 lakh (ex-showroom).

Kia Seltos facelift
Kia will also display at the Expo, the facelifted Seltos, which is already available in the international market. The new Seltos comes with revised front and rear designs and a heavily revamped feature list. The cabin design has also met with some updates. Kia has disclosed that the new Seltos will retain its current powertrain options and will be launched before the festive season of 2023.
Renault Arkana
The French company is planning on a comeback into the mid-size SUV segment by filling the gap created by the discontinuation of the Captur, with the introduction of their global model, the Arkana. The name derives from the Latin arcanum, meaning secret. The coupe SUV had debuted in May 2019 in Russia as a car based on the older Dacia/Renault Duster BO platform. Renault is bringing the latest version of the Arkana with a mild-hybrid powertrain to the expo marking their intentions of recapturing the mid-size SUV segment share. The SUV coupe was previously spied on test in India.

Tata Harrier facelift
Tata has been testing the updated version of the Harrier for some time now. It is speculated that Tata will showcase the facelift at the Delhi Auto Expo. Slight changes to the exterior along with a number of feature additions are expected on the new model. ADAS will be one of the major attractions on the new Harrier. No petrol engine variants are expected as the SUV is confirmed to retain the current 2.0L diesel mill.
