The CLE63 could also get a plug-in hybrid
Mercedes-Benz is gearing up to launch the new CLE 63 AMG. Latest reports by major sources suggest that the brand might pull back from its decision to give the CLE 63 the smaller four-pot, turbocharged hybrid petrol engine. The 671 hp, 4-cylinder turbocharged hybrid petrol engine that had previously been introduced on the C63 AMG continues to bring in criticism, for being the V8 replacement. The same has been translating into falling sales numbers for the C63, in both Europe and the United States.

A media major cites ‘senior officials’ at Mercedes Benz to have hinted that the CLE 63 AMG will feature the familiar twin-turbo 4.0L V8 improved with mild hybrid tech. This powertrain is expected to produce up to 585 hp, a good 100 hp less than what was previously rumoured. However, going by various prototype sightings, other electrified versions of the CLE 63 could also be introduced, including a plug-in hybrid.
