Tata Gravitas Is What The Magnificent 7 Seater Harrier Will Be Called, Launch In February! [Tata H7X]

The wait for the car is about to come to a close, as Tata Motors has named the production H7X, Tata Gravitas, to be out in Feb 2020…

The Tata Harrier has been one BIG crowd puller for the carmaker and has been selling good numbers since its launch last year. Boasting of sky-high aesthetics and equally magnificent tech and comfort levels, all that the Harrier had had in it missing was the added convenience of being a seven seater. Tata Motors had, however, showcased a 7 seater Harrier based on their H7X concept at the Geneva Motor Show, where it was given the ‘Tata Buzzard’ branding exclusively for the show.

The H7X based 7 seater SUV is finally getting ready to hit the markets this February. Tata Motors has named it ‘Tata Gravitas’, totally letting the ‘Tata Buzzard’ name fade out of memories.

Mr. Mayank Pareek – President, Passenger Vehicle Business Unit, Tata Motors said, “We are elated to reveal the name of our latest SUV offering– the Tata GRAVITAS. With this, we are excited to offer to our customers, yet another state-of-the-art product. The GRAVITAS will up the ante in terms of luxury and performance and we are excited to launch this product to customers in February 2020. We are confident that the GRAVITAS will inspire and lead as a product among customers and industry alike.”

Not many of the Tata Gravitas images have been out yet, but judging by the spy shots of the test mule and the ‘Tata Buzzard’ shown at Geneva, there might not be any significant change from the show car. The front fascia looks much similar to the 5 seater  Harrier. The overall design remains just to the Harrier till the C pillar, from where it shows all necessary design cues of a proper 7 seater.

The rear end looks boxier than the regular Harrier, and there is a larger rear quarter glass, owing to the 63mm growth in the overall length. The Gravitas would be almost 80mm taller than the Harrier as well, something that is further accentuated by its prominent roof rails. However, the wheelbase remains identical to the elder sibling and tips the scale at 2,741mm.

The Gravitas is the second SUV built on the OMEGA (Optimal Modular Efficient Global Advanced) architecture, after the Harrier. The platform itself is a highly reworked derivative of the legendary D8 platform of the Land Rovers. The performance, drivability and luxury levels of the SUV are rumoured to be of international standards.

While details are still scant of the engine and power figures, we hope the Gravitas to have the familiar 2.0 L Kryotec diesel engine, but in a different tuning as to let out all of its 170 horses! Also hoped to arrive is a Hyundai sourced 6-speed Torque converter auto box, in addition to the 6-speed manual transmission.

The Harrier is priced in the 13-16.86 lacs range and we expect the Tata Gravitas price to be a lakh or so higher when it finally gets launched in February 2020. Interested? Wanna know more? Here, this is for you then!
