The facelifted Brezza would come with a host of noteworthy updates
Maruti is preparing to launch the much-awaited 2022 Brezza facelift in India. A CNG version of the compact SUV is also known to be in the works. The facelift is expected to launch in May, and would bring about thorough design and equipment overhauls to the nameplate. Unofficial reports suggest that Maruti Suzuki has begun the production of the new Brezza at its Manesar facility.
The updated Brezza, internally codenamed YXA would feature many notable reworks and/or improvements from the previous one. Multiple changes are expected in the design, cabin, and mechanicals of the new subcompact SUV.
Expected Changes In Exterior
Going by the spy pictures that have surfaced online, the overall shape and design of Brezza is expected to be retained. However, the details would witness major overhauls. The facelift would feature a new front grille, flatter bonnet, twin-pod projector LED headlamps, new LED DRLs, tweaked LED tail lamps, new tailgate, and tail lamps, reworked front, and rear bumpers, and newly designed dual-tone 16-inch alloy wheels.
Expected Interior Changes
The feature list would see major overhauls on the new Brezza. Almost all the fancy features from the recently launched Baleno are expected to make their way to the Brezza as well. The SUV would thus have a floating 9-inch infotainment system with wireless Apple Carplay and Android Auto (The Baleno had it wired though), a 360-degree camera, connected car tech, and a head-up display.
The overall cabin layout would mostly be reworked with a fresh-looking dashboard and a new flat-bottom steering. There are, however, no spy shots to prove these yet! Things like a sunroof, wireless smartphone charger, cruise control and new dials are also expected on the new car.
Expected Safety Improvements
Maruti Suzuki will retain the global C platform on the new car, but in a significantly improved form. More steel would be used to strengthen the chassis and improve its crashworthiness. More safety technologies like 6 airbags, ESC, ABS, EBD, hill hold assist, tyre pressure monitoring, etc would also be included in the facelift.
The outgoing Brezza (and its Toyota iteration Urban Cruiser) already holds a 4-star GNCAP rating, and is one of the safest Maruti Suzukis in business today. With the expected chassis reworks and safety enhancements, Brezza 2022 could even be the first Maruti Suzuki to score a GNCAP 5-star rating! Global NCAP secretary general, Alejandro Furas had recently expressed his hopes on the same to Autocar India.
Engine And Specifications
On the mechanical front, the facelifted Brezza would feature a 1.5 K15C petrol engine, producing 103 hp and 137 Nm. This engine could also feature a progressive mild-hybrid tech, the details of which are yet to surface. The standard transmission would be the same 5-speed manual from the outgoing car. However, the automatic transmission would see a major step up. The dated 4-speed torque converter auto box would finally make way for a modern 6-speed torque converter unit from the global Suzuki models. The new transmission would offer faster, smoother shifts and better fuel efficiency. It could also come with paddle shifters and would have a dedicated Sport mode. The transmission update would also help Suzuki meet the upcoming CAFÉ 2 norms.
Expected Pricing And Specifications
With these updates in place, the Maruti Brezza prices would go up from the previous figures. The automatic variants are expected to get the biggest price revisions, owing to the transmissions they offer. We expect it to be priced in the 8-12.5 lakh range.
