Active Shift Control: This Ground-Breaking Technology From Hyundai Motor Group Would Give You More Miles Per Litre !

Upcoming Hyundai cars and Kia cars, if hybrid, will come with the Active Shift Control tech

Hyundai Motor Group has developed a revolutionary technology that would give the miles per gallon of future hybrid Hyundai cars and Kia cars a significant boost. It has been developed in-house by Hyundai Motor Group.

The technology, called Active Shift Control (ASC), is the first of its kind in the entire world. It essentially optimizes the transmission efficiency by monitoring gearshifts at rates as large as 500 times per second. The system then fine-tunes the transmission rotations speed to match the faster shift times. This will result in a significant bump in the Hyundai/ Kia cars mileage.

Usually, conventional Hybrids lack torque converters as these do account for fair amounts of energy losses during shifting and thus pulls down the net efficiency of the vehicle. Thus these vehicles require longer shift times to ensure smoother gear changing.

But, Active Shift Control (ASC) alters the performance of the Hybrid Control Unit (HCU) by applying a new control logic software to it. This then makes the electric motor tune the rotational speeds of the engine and transmission. This brings down the gear shift times by upto 30%. Thus the driver would be able to enjoy quick- yet- smooth gear shifts.

The durability of the transmission would also see a fair rise as the friction during gearshift is being reduced considerably in this mechanism.

So the question now is, Will the Active Shift Control be featured in the upcoming Kia Seltos?
