A massive ‘5 star’ Euro NCAP safety rating for the five seater performance SUV!
A few weeks back, we had seen the Jaguar I Pace fill news boards across the world after it was awarded the ‘German Car Of The Year’ (GCOTY) title , and now we see this SUV bag an amazing 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating, making it one of the safest vehicles currently in production.
I Pace, the first electric performance SUV from Jaguar, literally nailed the test by scoring a whopping 91% for adult occupant protection, 81% for child occupant protection and another 81% for safety assist. As impressive as that. The I-Pace scored maximum points for both the side barrier impact and the more severe side pole test, maintaining good protection of all critical body areas all the while.
Simon Black, Senior Project Leader, Body Engineering Jaguar Land Rover said: “TheJaguar I-PACE has already received awards for its design, performance and handling. This latest award from Euro NCAP confirms the I-PACE’s exceptional safety standards. The SUV has been expertly engineered with a lightweight aluminium body structure and integrated battery pack to provide outstanding crash protection for occupants. Safety is our biggest priority and it is fantastic to see the Euro NCAP results reflect this.”
Thanks for this supreme safety inside the I-Pace be to its lightweight aluminium skeleton that provides for unmatched strength and stiffness, the integral battery pack protected by a structural Aluminium frame that arranges for the highest torsional rigidity of any Jaguar yet, at 36 kNm per degree, and lots more .
Key ingredients behind the supreme strength of the body are the use of use of aluminium forgings which is an industry first as well, and Jaguar-first applications of post-form heat treatment to increase the strength of the aluminium alloys used in crash-critical areas.
Not just the safety of its occupants are being taken care of in the I Pace, but of the road users and pedestrians as well. Technologies like a deployable bonnet and Autonomous Emergency Braking with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, and a unique Audible Vehicle Alert System (AVAS) that warns road users when the vehicle is approaching ( The sound can be heard at speeds up to 20km/h and exceeds the 56dB(A) minimum required by forthcoming European legislation. The system was tested in conjunction with members of Guide Dogs for the Blind, the UK’s leading charity for people affected by sight loss.), are all onboard to ensure the safety of the non occupant folks as well. In addition to this, the host of thoroughly futuristic driver assist systems on the I Paced include stuff like Adaptive Cruise Control with Steering Assist, Blind Spot Assist, and 360° Parking Aid.
With this result out, we have all the SUVs from the British brand flaunting the flair of the 5 star Euro NCAP safety rating and the fact that the I Pace is the tenth product from Jaguar to bag the five star rating adds more feathers to its crown…
