Will the Mahindra XUV400 and its Ford twin get turbo petrol engines in India?
Mahindra had started its joint venture with Ford in October 2019. As we know, the partnership is expected to spawn as many as four (two each) new SUVs soon. There would be a Ford derivative of the upcoming Mahindra XUV500 and also expected is a smaller Mahindra XUV400. Much is known about the XUV500, though it is not the case with its younger brother, the XUV400.
Mahindra – Ford has now given out the powertrain details of their B segment SUVs. Known internally as the S204 and B745, these SUVs would share much on the powertrain front. They will get Mahindra’s 1.5L turbo petrol engine that is good enough to make 163hp and is currently under the hood of Ssangyong Korando globally. Belonging to the G series M Stallion family of Mahindra engines, this mill would also find its place under the hood of the upcoming Marazzo petrol. The Mahindra -Ford B SUVs will also have diesel engines, most likely the 1.5 L four-cylinder unit from the Marazzo.
Measuring around 4.3m in length, the S204 and B745 will have AWD on offer on certain variants. Both will have monocoque construction as well. These B segment SUVs would reportedly be launched in India in the second half of next year.
