Expect the prices to be under 10 lakh…
Tata Motors is currently a big name in India’s EV space. The manufacturer has epic market shares with just three all-electric models- Nexon EV Prime, Nexon EV Max and Tigor EV. On World EV Day, the Indian juggernaut has made a key announcement. It would soon be launching what could possibly become India’s most affordable EV- the Tiago EV.
Tata Motors had previously showcased the electric Tiago concept in an event in the UK and at Auto Expo 2018, and the production car is expected to evolve from the same. Tiago EV could borrow its powertrain and key mechanicals from the Tigor EV. However, the Tigor electric is already selling with three different powertrain specs- in the PV and commercial markets. It remains to be seen which of these would make their ways into the EV Tiago.
The most powerful of the lot- Ziptron, found on the Tigor EV available in the PV segment, would make the most sense on the Tiago electric from a driver’s perspective. But, this setup could be rather expensive and packaging the huge 26 kWh battery pack inside the tiny hatchback could be challenging as well.

Fingers crossed until Tata finally takes the wraps off this vehicle in the time ahead. Talking of the broader picture, Tata Motors has plans of launching 10 electric vehicles in the months ahead- across various segments and with varying body styles. The aggressive product strategy is hoped to transform India’s EV game further.
