The 7 seater Hyundai Alcazar will come with a 2.0L petrol engine too!
Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) is set to launch the 7 seater Creta in the coming weeks, under the name Alcazar. The carmaker had showcased the production-ready prototypes recently at Alila Fort, Bishangarh. With the official unveil and market launch scheduled to happen sometime in June, Hyundai India has now released a promotional video, showing its SUV lineup giving a welcome to the three-row newbie.
The video shows Hyundai’s current SUV lineup driving around on the Rann of Kutch, striking hard turns and slides, to finally write the name ‘ALCAZAR’ on the soil. The current SUV portfolio of the Korean marque for India consists of the Venue, Creta, Tucson and the all electric Kona.
Hyundai Alcazar: What Do We Know Of It Yet?
Hyundai has named the 7 Seater Creta Alcazar, the Spanish term for castle, hinting at the ‘grandeur and magnificence of palaces and castles’ which the vehicle embodies, as per the manufacturer. The product will sit above the Creta and take on the likes of Tata Safari and MG Hector Plus. The Alcazar will be available in the 6 and 7 seater configurations.
The Alcazar will follow Hyundai’s sensuous sportiness design language. While not much detail of the design is known yet, we do know that it would be a feast for the eyes, with cues like a flatter roofline, new C pillars, bigger rear overhangs, new tail lamps, redesigned bumpers and new 18 inch wheels.
The Alcazar will be built on a stretched-out version of Creta’s architecture. The new platform has longer rear overhangs and at 2760mm, the longest wheelbase in its class. This architecture has up to 75.6% Advanced and High Strength Steel application gone into it. The underbody, as per the company, can better absorb and disperse impact energy. The 7-seater Creta would also have improved rigidity, claims Hyundai.
Hyundai Alcazar is expected to come with two engines and two transmissions. There will be a 2.0L naturally aspirated petrol engine producing 157hp and 192Nm, apparently the same from the Elantra and Tucson, and the Creta’s 1.5L U2 CRDi diesel delivering 114hp and 250 Nm. The SUV will have a 6 speed manual and a 6 speed torque converter Automatic to choose from. Three different drive modes (Eco, City and Sport) are also expected.
