Quick look at all the happenings at MG pavilion…
Hailing all the way from a beautiful country called Britain, Morris Garages (MG) managed to cause a stir at the 2023 Auto Expo. They had an extensive lineup of vehicles on display, ranging from plug-in hybrids to EVs, and even a hydrogen-powered vehicle. It was all a teaser of MG’s ambitious ‘Drive.Ahead’ future mobility strategy. Now, let’s take a ride down the MG pavilion and explore these.
MG Cars At Auto Expo 2023
Next-Gen Hector, Hector Plus
MG Motor India made the public debut of the “Next-Gen” Hector and Hector Plus at the Auto Expo and also disclosed their pricing. It is essentially a refreshed model of the Hector and MG aims to reclaim its lost share in the midsize SUV segment with this vehicle. The Next-Gen Hector is available in five trim levels and seven colours, with the range-topping Savvy trim getting a suite of ADAS features; redesigned front and rear fascia, a new portrait-style infotainment screen on the inside, and many more.
The powertrain options remain the same, except for a small change. The 1.5-litre petrol engine doesn’t get the mind hybrid technology anymore. Pricing ranges from ₹14.72 Lakhs to ₹22.42 Lakhs for the Next-Gen Hector.
eHS PHEV
On the inaugural day of the show, MG started its auto expo campaign with this plug-in hybrid electric vehicle called the eHS. It’s similar to a Kia Seltos in terms of proportions and reminiscent of the pre-facelift MG ZS EV and Astor in terms of styling.
Under the bonnet of the eHS lies a 1.5-litre GDI turbo petrol engine combined with an electric motor to produce a collective 258 HP. The e-motor draws its power from a 16.6kWh battery pack and has an electric-only driving range of 52km. The eHS is one of the vital products that MG is considering for India. The eHS is already on sale in the European markets.
MG 4 EV
This was the other car that was presented alongside the eHS PHEV on the inaugural day. The MG 4 electric hatchback made its India debut at the 2023 Auto Expo. It’s a born-electric vehicle and is based on the parent company SAIC’s Modular Scalable architecture.
The MG 4 is available with a couple of options for the battery – a 51 kWh unit and a larger 64 kWh pack. Both of them come in a single-motor RWD configuration. The smaller battery offers 350km of range, while the larger one offers 452km on a single go. MG is evaluating the 4 electric hatches for the Indian market. The showcasing at the Auto Expo was an attempt to gauge customer interest.

MG 5 EV
Along with the MG 4 electric hatchback, the brand also showcased the MG 5 electric estate at the Auto Expo. It’s similar to the Kia Carens in terms of proportions and is already on sale in markets like Europe and UK. The MG 5 is known for excelling as a family vehicle.
It’s available with two options for the battery – a 50.3 kWh pack and a bigger 61.1 kWh unit. The former is good for 320km of range, while the latter offers 400km. Charging speeds of up to 87 kW are supported by the MG 5. There are no serious intentions of launching the MG 5 in the Indian market.
Marvel R
As the name suggests, the Marvel R is truly a marvellous machine from the house of Morris Garages. MG debuted the Marvel R in India at the Auto Expo. It was launched as the direct replacement for the Marvel X that made an appearance at the previous edition of the event in 2020.
It packs a tri-motor configuration producing a maximum of 284 healthy horses and 665Nm of torque, spinning all four wheels. It gets a range of 402km (WLTP) on a single charge.
Mifa 9
The Mifa 9 is an electric MPV that’ll lock horns with the likes of the Toyota VellFire and the Kia Carnival if it goes on sale in India. While it debuted in India under the MG brand name, it is sold under the SAIC-owned Maxus marquee in the international markets. For those scratching their heads thinking about the bizarre name, the term MIFA can be expanded as Maximum, Intelligent, Friendly, and Artistic.
The Mifa 9 offers 245 HP and 350Nm under your right foot, and has a 90 kWh battery that’s capable of providing 440km of range on a single charge. The India launch of the Mifa 9 is not on cards for the time being.
Euniq 7
The Euniq 7 is another MPV showcased by MG at the Auto Expo, but this one’s different from the others. The MG Euniq 7 is a production-spec, top-end, fuel cell MPV. Yes, it features MG’s new hydrogen fuel-cell technology.
It features an 83.5 kWh fuel cell, a 70 MPA hydrogen storage system, a 6.4 kilogram high pressure hydrogen cylinder, and packs a range of up to 605 km on a single charge. It even comes with space-grade carbon filters as well.
Along with the introduction of the Euniq 7, MG also introduced its third-generation fuel-cell technology called Prome 390. It features an integrated design and offers high durability, high power density, high reliability, and environmental capability.

eMG6 PHEV
This is the MG that hoonigans would prefer, at least looking at it. MG presented the eMG6 X-Power plug-in hybrid electric sedan at the Auto Expo, a model which is already on sale in some markets across Asia and the Middle East. It’s similar to the Volkswagen Virtus in terms of proportions.
The eMG6, especially in the X-Power guise, features quite an aggressive and sporty design. It even sports a prominent boot lid-mounted wing, smoked taillights, Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 high-performance tyres. Serious weapon on wheels!!!
Under the skin, it packs a 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor to make a combined 301 HP and 480Nm. It’s mated to a 10-speed Intelligent electric drive transmission.
Roewe eRX5
Last but not least, MG had the eRX5 plug-in hybrid electric compact SUV on display at their arena at Auto Expo. Currently, in its third generation, the eRX5 is nothing but a rebadged ‘Roewe’ that’s already on sale in China. The Roewe eRX5 is similar in proportions to something like a Hyundai Tucson.
It packs the updated version of the second generation of SAIC’s Blue Core powertrain. Pop open the hood and behold the 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine paired with an electric motor to make a combined 245 HP and 570Nm. It’s mated to a 10-speed automatic gearbox.
Current Products
Along with the latest and greatest pieces of 4-wheeled machinery, MG also had some products from their current product line on display. The Astor, Gloster, and the ZS EV are the models that were on display at the Auto Expo.
