MoRTH Mandates ISI Marks For Helmets.

The Government of India issues new regulations for the helmet business

Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, issued a new notification dated 26th November 2020, stating all helmets which are sold here should bear the ISI mark with effect from June 1, 2021.

A notification was issued earlier in 2018, it stated the Government was going to make it mandatory that all helmets should meet the BIS standards and also bear an ISI mark. Unfortunately, the notification also stated that all helmets should be only weighing under 1200gms, putting almost every imported full-face helmets out of the box. To keep the weight under the permitted 1200gm, manufacturers be using expensive materials like carbon-fiber which will further result in massive price tags.

Of-course the motorcycling community did raise voice against this, and the government seems to have taken it into consideration, there wasn’t any talk on this matter till this new notification had been released. Since there is not a clear idea of whether the 1200gm weight rule will be implemented as of now, (we wish not) we’ll update you on the same as and when we get to know of it.
