Tata Altroz To Get A New Turbo Petrol And Schaeffler Wet Clutch DCT.

The latest scoops suggest that Tata Motors would launch the car soon in India

In fair accordance with the previous industry rumours, Tata Altroz would soon get new engine and transmission options. The car will be getting a 1.2L turbo petrol motor and a wet clucth DCT box by Schaeffler.

With every manufacturer going the turbo petrol way with their models, Tata Altroz with the 1.2 L 3cyl petrol motor was lagging behind the competition by a fair bit. It is high time now that Tata introduces a more powerful petrol engine for the Altroz. Well, Tata Motors seems to have had this realization as well. The Altroz will soon be getting a new 1.2L turbo-petrol putting out 110hp. Adding more oomph though is the addition of Schaeffler sourced DCT (Dual-Clutch Transmission) to the package, to make up for sportier drives all day.

Initially a Punch-sourced 7-speed DCT was considered by Tata Motors. But it seems Tata has pulled the plug on the deal for the dry-clutch gearbox with a Belgian company and has come up with the much better wet-clutch unit made by the German component supplier Schaeffler.

The Altroz with the 1.2L turbo-petrol coupled with the quick-shifting DCT will be a hoot to drive. The new DCT equipped variant will have all the bells and whistles on board and will be placed atop the range. We expect Tata to reveal the price details of the Altroz turbo-petrol DCT in early 2021. Once launched, the car will compete against the likes of the new Hyundai i20 1.0 DCT, Volkswagen Polo 1.0 TSI, and the CVT variants of the Maruti Suzuki Baleno, Toyota Glanza and Honda Jazz.
